Managed Amazon Cloud for NZZ

Tuesday, 14. May 2013

The website nzz.ch and all its affiliated sites run in the Amazon cloud (AWS). Over the last few months, under nine.ch’s leadership, the nzz.ch infrastructure has been completely rebuilt and integrated with the AWS standards of nine.ch’s Managed Services.

The benefits of nine.ch’s Managed Services can now be combined with the advantages of AWS. The system is monitored around the clock by our on-call Linux experts, who maintain the systems proactively through analysis and security updates, and creation of off-cloud back-ups with a disaster recovery plan.

This project has enabled nine.ch to offer a managed AWS, making it possible to take advantage of the benefits of a true cloud infrastructure with very high flexibility and scalability, as well as the security and ease of nine.ch’s Managed Services. Later this year, nine.ch will develop a standard product to meet this customer need.

“With nine.ch’s innovative and progressive solution, we are now able to respond flexibly to future challenges. The professional and dedicated nine.ch team gave us optimum support in our agile development process throughout the entire project and provided a tailor-made solution to fit our needs.”

Announcement: New server generation

Friday, 26. April 2013

From mid-May 2013, a new server generation will be available to our customers. The new Intel servers form the basis of all solutions and products from nine.ch (with the exception of co-location and housing).

With the launch, the offer will also be simplified, so that in future the following servers will be available:

Pro:

  • 1 CPU (4 cores)
  • 32 GB RAM
  • 2x 1000 GB 3.5” SATA 7.2k
  • total of 4 slots for 3.5” HDDs (available as an option with SSDs)
  • 1 power supply

Dual:

  • 2 CPUs (each with 6 cores)
  • 32 GB RAM (expandable as an option up to 192 GB)
  • 2x 1000 GB 2.5” SATA 10k
  • total of 8 slots total for 2.5” HDDs (available as an option with SAS or SSDs)
  • Hardware-RAID controller (RAID-0, 1, 5, 6, 10, 50, 60)
  • RAID BBU (battery back-up unit)
  • 2 power supplies connected to different power circuits and USPs

The new models not only bring more power and a higher standard of equipment, but also require less current thanks to low-power CPUs and high efficiency power supplies, and are thus more environmentally friendly than their predecessors. The basic price remains unchanged, despite numerous improvements and upgrades.

Advance orders will be gladly accepted by email, and will be processed in order of receipt.

10 Gbps peering at Swisscom

Thursday, 18. April 2013

nine.ch now has a 10 Gpbs peering connection to Swisscom/IP-Plus. As the connection can withstand a high volume of traffic, this step further reduces the risk of bottlenecks; for example, in the event of DDoS attacks. The new peering connection also features IPv6 sessions, enabling Swisscom access customers with IPv6-enabled internet connections to take advantage of shorter routes to nine.ch.
