Dedicated Server FAQ
Frequently asked questions about our Dedicated Server products.
1. What is done in the case of a hardware malfunction?
If possible, we will perform a repair after consulting with you. The spare parts and exchange are subject to our hardware warranty, ensuring that no additional costs arise for you.
In the case of serious problems or total failure of hardware we will make an as identically as possible configured server in its original state available within a business day at maximum. Missing upgrades will be installed at a later point in time. The important fact is that you will be able to utilise your services as quickly as possible. Please take in consideration that in the meantime the server plattform may have changed. Therefore we recommand to use always the current kernel version.
The replacement server will have the same IP address. Please consider that the machine will be "bare", i.e. delivered in the base configuration. We recommend that you utilise the backup option for critical applications enabling you to automate the backup, ensuring that you can restore your data quickly in the case of a failure. A backup can be performed at home via DSL or cable as well. When using this option, please consider the time that is required for the restoring of data.
Please arrange alternative restore scenarios such as restoring your backup from blank DVDs or an external hard drive beforehand. In this manner, we can inform you about the feasibility and possible costs regarding these scenarios.
2. Can you take care of the monitoring and trouble-free operation of the servers for me?
Of course. Please read the information regarding our Managed Server services. These include maintenance, supervision and monitoring with backup and if necessary restoration work of servers.
3. Do you also offer other platforms and architectures such as servers equipped with AMD's Opteron, Sun's SPARC or Apple's XServe?
As we cannot stock a sufficient amount of spare parts, we have limited our range of server systems to those by Intel and AMD. In this manner, we can comprehensively cover the range from inexpensive (Intel Core2Duo) to high-performance (Intel Dual-Xeon). If you want to run different types of servers, you can do this in the form of Server Housing in our facilities.
4. Do you also offer Windows servers?
Unfortunately not as a Dedicated Server. However, if you wish to run Windows servers, you can use our Server Housing services. Please contact us to receive an offer including server rental and windows license.
5. What are the advantages of the Swiss location?
A Swiss location has the shortest direct connections to Swiss providers and therefore offers both lower latencies as well as a higher speed.
