What began as a crisis became an opportunity to build the infrastructure on a future-proof foundation. Together with our partner Renuo AG, we supported the migration of the Salary Survey to Deploio – with open standards, Swiss hosting, and an architecture that doesn't just promise digital sovereignty, but proves it. **Challenge:** The ICT Salary Survey by swissICT has been the leading reference for salaries and employment conditions in the Swiss ICT industry since 1981. Each year, the incomes of around 39,500 ICT professionals from over 230 companies are collected and analysed, based on 50 standardised roles. The results provide employers and professionals with reliable benchmark data for salary negotiations, budget planning, and the design of fair compensation systems. In late 2024, swissICT had to migrate the Salary Survey under time pressure after the previous service provider shut down their business. Server configurations, ownership and access rights had to be clarified at short notice. At the same time, swissICT was clear that key requirements would need to continue to be met: all parties involved should operate exclusively within the Swiss legal framework, the code should remain fully under the association's control, and the risk of another vendor lock-in had to be eliminated. **Solution:** The choice fell on Deploio, our Swiss Platform-as-a-Service solution built on open standards with no vendor lock-in. We did both: built a new colocation infrastructure in Rümlang and helped Supertext choose the right redundancy strategy, even when that meant advising against a more complex solution. **Challenge:** Supertext, one of the leading language AI specialists in the DACH region, has been running its own servers in a colocation environment for years. For the relaunch of supertext.com with a completely new cluster, a new rack and significantly more power capacity were required. Both had reached their limits at the previous location in Altstetten. Adding to the complexity, information about how the existing machines were protected on the power side was initially missing, making planning more difficult than necessary. The server installation also presented early challenges: the servers turned out to be too long for the rack, and power sockets had to be repositioned before installation could be completed. **Solution:** The solution was a move to the data center in Rümlang. We doubled the power line capacity specifically for Supertext, permanently securing the capacity needed for the new rack and cluster. The new rack now hosts an active-active cluster with six nodes – four GPU blades and two CPU blades – each equipped with eight GPUs, mostly NVIDIA RTX 6000, orchestrated via Docker Swarm. In parallel, we advised Supertext on the question of georedundancy: would a load balancer between two locations make sense? After thorough analysis, both parties decided against it, because the additional complexity of a multi-site setup would have increased the risk of errors rather than reduced it. Instead, redundancy is now handled pragmatically and with minimal maintenance requirements within the rack itself. The fact that we actively advised against a more elaborate solution, even though it meant less revenue, made a lasting impression on Supertext. **Result:** Supertext now runs its infrastructure in the data center in Rümlang, with sufficient power, a dedicated rack for supertext.com, and a redundancy strategy that matches the actual complexity of the setup. The network architecture is leaner, more robust, and easier to operate than a distributed solution would have been. What remains is a working relationship built on mutual trust, and a running joke among Supertext employees: anyone visiting the data center quickly learns to move swiftly after entering the airlock. However, we had to adapt the existing code, as the mühlemann+popp application was originally optimised for the Google Cloud. So, for example, we switched from Google Cloud Storage to our S3-compatible Object Storage system. We also introduced ArgoCD, which we manage and that improved deployment transparency for mühlemann+popp's customers. Finally, we also supported the project with managed services such as Grafana, Loki and an SQL server – including a VPN connection for the SQL server on request. **Result:** The customer from the healthcare sector is completely satisfied with the new Swiss solution – as is mühlemann+popp. The migration was successful, there were no significant problems or downtimes. Nine's expertise and flexibility enabled Unifits to quickly implement a proof of concept, set up a test system and finally, to migrate their production environment to the new platform. As part of the project, database client certificates were introduced, which additionally strengthened data security to the desired level. **Result:** The new NKE platform enables Unifits to add flexibility to their application and to scale it easily when needed. In addition, the GitOps approach means that configuration changes require far less effort and can be tracked in their entirety, thus reducing workload and saving costs. Installing new versions is easier, as the deployment of custom programmes is now fully automated. In addition, Unifits can check the status of their application more quickly and easily and view any anonymised logs. A main concern for Comerge was that they wanted a container platform that could scale globally and reliably, while allowing them to focus on delivering applications to their customers without needing to operate the underlying infrastructure. **Solution:** As a long-time customer of Nine, Comerge has trusted Nine's technical expertise when it comes to cloud environments, especially in container management. They found the solution in an ISO-27001-certified cooperation for hosting. **Challenge:** Clientis banks are characterised by their regional focus and their perceived proximity to customers. Clientis has gained the trust of its clients through a transparent and solid approach to the banking business. To further strengthen this trust, the company strives to comply with regulations, such as those of FINMA, as quickly, sustainably and securely as possible. As a competence and service centre for its 15 banks, Clientis AG needs solutions that function equally well for all members of the Group, and for any decisions. Thus, multiple aspects had to be considered with regard to the FINMA guidelines published in Circular 08/7 'Outsourcing for Banks'. **Solution:** Clientis AG not only sought a reliable hosting provider for a successful partnership, but was also interested in further cooperation regarding this hosting relationship. Here, the aforementioned FINMA guidelines were to be satisfied within the framework of an ISO 27001 certification. The company plans to provide an e-commerce price comparison tool, so that customers can also benefit from comparing the offers of various service providers while shopping online. **Challenge:** Users both know and value the services provided by the existing online platform. All comparisons can be made quickly and easily, and serve as a sound basis for decision-making. As the number of online purchases is constantly growing, users now want the option to compare offers and service providers in e-commerce. The idea is to present this comparison in the same way as on the existing pages, while offering the same added value in terms of information. Since first starting out comparing health insurance schemes 20 years ago, the offering listed on comparis.ch has continued to develop and increase. Users can now compare rates and services relating to health care schemes, insurance policies, banks, telecommunication providers, real estate, cars and motorcycles. **Solution:** The company became aware of the demand for an online shop comparison tool through both further development measures and customer requests. The aim was therefore to build a platform for comparing various products from different e-commerce sites, where users could be taken directly to the provider's website if they wished. It was important that the new price comparison tool would be seamlessly integrated into the existing website and that it was designed in a way that made it easy for users to take advantage of this feature. Their ideal Managed Cloud provider had to offer a stable platform for a new application that was to be available at all times and never go offline, even when used by numerous individuals at once. Also, comparis.ch asked for a partner that would take on server management from start to finish and that could guarantee a location within Switzerland. **Result:** Nine developed a solution for comparis.ch AG based on a managed cluster system. Since the requirements of comparis.ch could not be met by a standard solution, Nine offered a cluster system. In its search for a Swiss provider to operate its course management platform in 2014, Nine's professionalism, performance and exciting portfolio appealed to the SRC. **Solution:** Choosing a Root Server was self-explanatory in this context, as the course management platform required specific modules that could not be implemented on a Managed Server. Dedicated Root Servers and the latest software allowed the second-largest course provider in Switzerland to process 1 million visitors per year without issue, while maintaining maximum availability, especially at weekends, in the evenings or during holidays, when most visitors search for information on first-aid or babysitting courses, or education in the areas of nursing and care. **Result:** Nine's Root Servers provide customers with full root access to a dedicated machine, giving them maximum independence. This means that e.g. Apache or DNS can be installed and managed at will. To maximise freedom of choice, there are various operating system options to choose from. Nine can either install an operating system from its offering, or, in certain cases, the customer installs their own operating system via NetInstaller or IP KVM. The initial setup and configuration of the desired server services are entirely in the hands of the customer and carried out via SSH access. Thanks to a wide range of use cases, Root Servers can be used for any high-performance application. A variety of hardware options means that, for example, additional SSDs for increased performance or more RAM for greater capacity can be installed. > "I really appreciate the very high availability and convenient scaling options. To make sure that customers would also benefit from the new approach, Mobiliar needed a solution with guaranteed high availability during 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. **Solution:** Website hosting – previously managed by the internal IT department at Mobiliar – was to be outsourced with the 2015 relaunch. In addition, information was to be completely restructured, a new CMS introduced, previous stand-alone microsites integrated into the main website, and three separate domains (one per language) were to be split out from a single domain. In addition to the above changes, it was also important for Mobiliar to find a reliable and highly available solution that not only guaranteed uninterrupted runtimes, but also one which allowed an immediate response in an emergency. The chosen Managed Cloud provider was to offer continuous monitoring of the platform itself, as well as the applications running on it, and guarantee 24/7 service availability. Furthermore, the client asked for a sound cooperation with Liip AG to implement the web development. **Result:** The requirements defined by Mobiliar could be fully met by Nine by adding a service level agreement as an additional option to the managed setup. Platform monitoring is a part of the server management and thus generally included in all managed setups. The service level agreement supplemented this with additional application monitoring, employing a string check to regularly validate defined parameters. This ensures that Nine is always on top of any disruption on the Mobiliar platform, and can respond immediately – regardless of whether the platform or the application causes the error. To guarantee the availability of Mobiliar's online presence, the Service Level Agreement included further terms. Among them were, for example, a guaranteed response time, preferential treatment in case of a serious incident, and a guaranteed availability of 99.9%. Over this time, their requirements for data security and development had changed profoundly, while their client base had grown significantly. **Solution:** To meet these new requirements, it was time for a completely new software solution: «CASAONE». The new approach was to be highly automated from a technical standpoint, to enable the development team to be even faster when delivering new features requested by clients, to significantly reduce time to market, and to guarantee the highest level of resilience. Their Managed Container provider needed to offer a highly-scalable, secure and software-independent solution, as well as a stable, high-performance live environment, non-disruptive feature updates and alternative methods of publication and installation via containerisation. Furthermore, the client asked for an implementation of methods to improve collaboration within the team.
