Key-Value Store · Redis compatible, runs Valkey

A Redis-compatible Key-Value Store, ready in a few clicks.

An in-memory key-value database for your cache or message broker. Create the On-Demand Key-Value Store yourself in Cockpit, with nctl or via the API. We keep it running and apply the updates. Already on a Managed Server? Get it there as a Managed Service.

Use cases

Sound familiar?

“Our pages load slowly because the same data is queried over and over.”

How the Key-Value Store helps

Use it as a distributed cache: your app keeps frequently used data in memory instead of asking the database every time.

“We want a cache for our app on Deploio or Kubernetes, without running a server.”

How the Key-Value Store helps

Create the On-Demand Key-Value Store in Cockpit, with nctl or via the API. Access from Managed Kubernetes and Deploio is allowed by default. On Deploio, Service Connections inject the credentials as environment variables.

“Our services need to exchange messages.”

How the Key-Value Store helps

Use the Key-Value Store as a message broker between your applications, Redis compatible and in memory.

“Our app already runs on a Managed Server.”

How the Key-Value Store helps

We run the Key-Value Store as a Managed Service on your Managed Server, bound to 127.0.0.1. From Ubuntu 26.04 it runs Valkey, older releases keep Redis. Need a different maxmemory policy? Our support adjusts it. Key-Value Store as a Managed Service.

On-Demand Key-Value Store

What you get

Redis compatible

Runs Valkey 9, an open-source fork of Redis. Redis clients and applications work without changes.

Kept up to date

We apply security and software updates in the NKE maintenance windows. Short interruptions are possible during these windows.

Configurable

Choose the RAM size and the maxmemory policy. The default is allkeys-lru, which removes the least recently used keys first.

Secure connections

TLS only, on port 6379. You decide which IP addresses may connect, access from Managed Kubernetes and Deploio is allowed by default.

In Switzerland

Runs in the nine-es34 location (NTT Zürich 1, Rümlang).

Two ways

Standalone, or on your Managed Server?

The On-Demand Key-Value Store stands on its own and you create it yourself. On a Managed Server, the Key-Value Store (Redis compatible) runs as a Managed Service for CHF 15.– per month.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Is the Key-Value Store compatible with Redis?
Yes. The On-Demand Key-Value Store runs Valkey 9, an open-source fork of Redis that remains compatible with it. Redis clients and applications work without changes.
How do I connect?
Over TLS on the standard port 6379, with the user "default" and the token you find in Cockpit or with nctl. Allow your IP address first, access from Managed Kubernetes and Deploio is enabled by default. Getting started.
What happens when the memory is full?
That depends on the maxmemory policy. By default, allkeys-lru removes the least recently used keys. You can choose another policy, changing it restarts the instance.
Can I change the size later?
Yes, you can adjust the RAM. The instance restarts, and the storage space grows with the RAM but cannot be reduced.
Are my keys backed up?
Keys and values are persisted across restarts, but we don’t create backups. If you need one, export your keys with RedisShake, as described in our documentation.
Are there commands I can’t use?
FLUSHALL is not allowed. Use FLUSHDB to clear the keys of the currently selected database.
On-Demand Service or Managed Service: which one fits?
If your app runs on Managed Kubernetes, Deploio or elsewhere and you want to create the store yourself, choose the On-Demand Key-Value Store. If your app already runs on a Managed Server, the Managed Service runs right next to it and our support adjusts the configuration for you.
