Nine has contributed to the open source application Kubernetes by adding a universal autoscaler for RKE2, Rancher’s Kubernetes Engine.

The feature contributed by Nine makes the autoscaling function of RKE2, a software stack for the secure and streamlined deployment of Kubernetes clusters, provider-independent. The RKE2 autoscaler was developed as Nine needed a way to support horizontal scaling,  i.e. automatically adding or removing machines from a cluster, for dynamic workloads on Nine Kubernetes Engine, their fully Swiss managed Kubernetes platform. Thanks to the addition, any organisation can easily autoscale Rancher’s Kubernetes Engine. Nine’s contribution has already been included into the latest official release, 1.25.0.
