Case Study Comparis: Managed Cluster

Stability for Price Comparisons Between Online Shops

«Our collaboration with nine went off without a hitch. The servers run very smoothly, and all support requests were resolved quickly. This continues to be the case today. Communication about new products and new versions works well too, which means we are always up to date on all changes.»

Robert de Heer Head of Product Development Classifieds comparis.ch AG

Through Comparis, users can compare everything from health insurance schemes and insurance policies to banks, real estate and vehicles. The company plans to provide an e-commerce price comparison tool, so that customers can also benefit from comparing the offers of various service providers while shopping online.

Customer Expectations

Users both know and value the services provided by the existing online platform. All comparisons can be made quickly and easily, and serve as a sound basis for making decisions. Because the number of online purchases is constantly growing, users now want to have the possibility to compare offers and service providers. The idea is to present this comparison in the same way as on the existing pages while offering the same level of added value in terms of information.

Challenges Faced by comparis.ch AG

Since first starting out comparing health insurance schemes 20 years ago, the offers listed on comparis.ch have continued to develop and increase. Users can now compare rates and services relating to health care schemes, insurance policies, banks, telecommunication providers, real estate, cars and motorcycles.

The company became aware of the need to compare online shops through both further development measures and customer requests. The aim was therefore to build a platform on which users can compare various products from different onl aine shops and then be taken directly to the provider's website if desired.

It was important that the new price comparison tool be seamlessly integrated into the existing website and that it was created in a way that made it easy for users to take advantage of this feature.

Requirements Placed on the Managed Cloud Provider

  • a stable platform for a new application that is available at all times and is never offline, even when used by a large number of individuals
  • a partner that takes responsibility for server management from start to finish
  • the Swiss site must be guaranteed

Solution Provided by Nine

Nine developed a solution for comparis.ch AG based on a managed cluster system.

  • Since the requirements of comparis.ch could not be implemented with a standard solution, Nine offered a cluster system. This cluster consists of multiple components that function like a single system and offer excellent availability, stability and flexibility. This allows the cluster to be adapted and designed to meet the requirements of comparis.ch – individual components can be replaced without any issues or expanded while the system is in operation.

  • Nine took full control of all aspects of server management for this solution. This included an analysis of the "Price comparison" application, an assessment of the requirements and targets set by comparis.ch AG and an evaluation of the business model and the customer segment. This meant that collaboration on the solution could start during the conception phase, leading to uninterrupted operation that included the ongoing optimization of resources.
