Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Xenial Now Available

nine Team Jun 1, 2016

The new Ubuntu version 16.04 LTS with codename Xenial Xerus for Root and Managed Servers is available from nine.ch with immediate effect. Every two years, Ubuntu offers new LTS (long-term support) for its Linux distribution, which is then supplied with security updates for five years.

Xenial is the next LTS version after Trusty and will receive security support from Ubuntu until April 2021. Our Managed Systems will be delivered with Xenial as standard from June 06th 2016. Systems with Trusty (14.04) can be ordered until December 31st 2016. For customers who are currently using version 12.04 (Precise), we will provide information on the various migration options until the end of June.

Along with Xenial, the following versions for the LAMP stack can also be used:

  • Kernel 4.4
  • Apache 2.4
  • MySQL 5.7
  • Postgres 9.5
  • PHP 7.0 [1]
  • nginx 1.9

The Ubuntu security team has decided not to activate HTTP/2 yet, as it is still regarded as experimental. However, it is likely that HTTP/2 will be released at a later date.

For questions on any Managed Service or version not listed above, please contact our support team by email or phone.

If you would like to switch to Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial, you can simply order a new server from our sales team.

  • For a switch from 12.04, we are happy to offer a two-week free parallel operation for the migration of your data without a set-up fee.
  • Naturally for a switch from 14.04, you also receive a two-week free parallel operation for the migration of your data, but with a set-up fee.

Order your new server now with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS - we look forward to hearing from you.
