The IT-Fest Albisrieden

nine Team Jun 6, 2016

The IT-Fest Albisrieden took place as a part of the Informatiktage Zurich on 3rd and 4th June 2016, and nine.ch was there in the thick of things to offer fun and experiments to young and old!

On the Friday, we had the pleasure of welcoming the sixth grade class from the “In der Ey” school. The around 20 pupils had lots of fun building a server from the ground up and then installed an operating system, giving them the opportunity to get to know a server in all its individual parts. During a short tour of one of our data centres they also got an overview of “where the internet is”.

Despite the rather unfriendly weather conditions, we were able to welcome lots of IT enthusiasts to our activities on Saturday and we hope that we were able to bring our visitors a little closer to the world of IT and give them a good look behind the scenes of a website. With exclusive tours of one of our data centres, a demonstration of a safe deletion of hard drive data with our degausser, the ‘server open-heart surgery’, and a memory game for the little ones, we were able to ensure diverse insights and reach lots of visitors.

Our short presentation on the topic of ‘What happens when I access a website?’, which demonstrated visually to the audience everything that happens in the background as soon as a website is accessed in a browser, was well attended.

We are delighted that we were able to participate in this great opportunity for bringing people closer to IT. It was great fun and a fantastic experience for the whole nine.ch team!
